Let’s say you want to promote HostGator affiliate program (HostGator pays you up to $100 per sale.)

If you run a site, you might want to promote the hosting affiliate program in your articles – for example, write HostGator Review.

Place banners on prominent spots, or simply state “XYZ Hosting is our preferred partner” or such.

Affiliate Marketing Issues

I told you in the last post that if you email me too much with your offers, I will unsubscribe. Period. It’s annoying and truthfully, it’s the easiest way to lose affiliate money. You DO NOT want that to happen.

It’s all about striking a balance. You need to find a happy medium in your affiliate business. Now, back to why affiliate marketers suck.

Let me clarify here…affiliate marketers who lie, cheat, spam and annoy suck. I can tell you from personal experience, probably 85% of affiliate marketing falls into this category. Why? Simple. People want an easy way out. Well, no legit, profitable business is easy to build.

You need to pore your blood sweat and tears into the business, build it, run it….then sit back and prosper. All of which is totally possible with affiliate marketing. I mean, other people have already done the hard work and created the products…all you have to do is promote them.

How you go about that determines whether you suck or not. If you promote scam products, you suck. If you claim to make $58,000 in one hour, you suck. How about emailing your list 10x a day? SUCK!

Here’s the thing folks, always be honest and have integrity in your online ventures. Your word is your brand. Your brand will fail miserably if you make a few sales and it’s crap. Or if you don’t deliver the goods you promise. If you tell me I can make $58,000 in one hour…by God, I better be able to do it.

If I can’t do it, you are a liar and you SUCK. Period. Any questions?

But before digging into all of that, first let’s get some mistakes out of the way. This is a video tutorial on some of the most common affiliate marketing mistakes.

Affiliate Marketing Mistakes

Let me tell you from personal experience two things. YES, you can make decent to great money being an affiliate marketer.  Number two, email your list too much and you’re as good as done. And I mean done. Too many emails will have people unsubscribe from your list faster then you can say no money in the bank.

True story. Two weeks ago, I subbed to a list of someone who was giving a wonderful freebie away….which you need to do to build your list. I loved the freebie, loved the first 3 emails I received….in one hour! After that, I received upwards of 8-10 emails per day from this person.

I could only take 2 weeks of the incessant emails; I unsubscribed yesterday. This person may well have a list of 5000+ people, but I know more have unsubscribed. There is no value, just selling. DO NOT JUST SELL to your list. You will not succeed.

You need to prove you have some worth and trust before you can expect to gain customers. Period. So, that is a huge mistake in my humble opinion. Without further adieu….the following video will highlight some common affiliate marketing mistakes.

If you’re here with me for quite sometime, you would definitely notice that I am talking affiliate marketing mostly from the paid search and advertising point of view. Just alone by reading the noobs guide, you’d find out that the affiliate model we are running with here in AffiliateHat is CPA to paid traffic model.

It surprises me though on how affiliate marketing is so diversified. I mean as shoemoney stated there are six figure affiliates who haven’t heard of performance-based networks like AzoogleAds, Copeac, Neverblue and etc. That alone sums up that within affiliate marketing alone, there are several income streams all with very good potential.

Anyways, I was recently pinged by Zac Johnson about his free eBook on affiliate marketing. It’s not really an affiliate marketing guide like the ones we have here in our newsletter but its more of an affiliate monetization way from the blogging side. Just in case you don’t know, Zac Johnson is a self-proclaimed super affiliate slash spiderman fan slash blogger. He was really used to get criticisms a lot from the paid search industry for being fake or what not but I guess that’s a thing of the past as he was able to carve out a powerful brand around himself by now.

The eBook that he had is entitled Six Figure Affiliate Blogging. The free product tackles some fundamental topics like finding a niche, doing keyword research, getting some nice and hardcore blog designs. That is the basic part of it. However, there are some pretty nice writeup on the book on how he, himself turned the blog into an affiliate income earner machine so if you’re already a tech savvy, you may want to skip the fundamental part and jump straight into the advanced chapters.

Even though I am pretty allergic with eBooks, I liked reading it in the end. Zac is probably one of the best bloggers in terms of making so much money turning his readers into affiliate commissions and as far as what I’m observing right now that seems to be an untapped source of blog income. People are so “advertising” obsessive that they dont really leverage their traffic by doing much more.

So definitely if you’re interested into this, you may want to check out his six figure affiliate blogging product. And besides its free so if you dont want it, just delete in from your hard drive and make a blog post that it sucks.

Most of the newbie question in affiliate marketing is about how to promote their own affiliate offer? I usually respond by giving them some short list of different tactics and strategies that I use in my own campaigns.

If you look at the Affiliate Marketing Basics Page here, the no.7 step is promoting. It’s kinda vague to think about it since promoting affiliate offers is a wide topic. That’s why there has never been a scarcity of this topic online. Affiliate bloggers never run out of posts in tackling this and it’s a continuous debate over and over.

It’s limitless because for instance, when you talk about pay-per click marketing, you can talk about several variations on how to do it effectively. You can also include copywriting inside it where there are another heap of variations. And we’re not even into different PPC networks yet and their differences in their own rules.

Overwhelmed by now? It’s normal. In the next few days I’m going to carve out a post about a huge list of different ways on promoting your affiliate offers and in each ways, I would try to be as comprehensive as possible. Stay tuned.

In affiliate marketing, you can easily distinguish the experts from the noobs. Most newbies don’t do tracking. In fact and surprisingly, they don’t even seem to know how to track and don’t show any interests in tracking. Probably one of the many reasons why most “affiliate marketers” doesn’t really make money with affiliate marketing.

Tracking is essential, just like testing and tweaking, it helps us do well and improve our own campaigns. By tracking, we come to have an idea of what is working and what’s not working w/c will then give us the opportunity to tweak.

There are several tools that you can use to track your own affiliate marketing campaigns but you don’t need to use a lot. If you are with Pay-per click networks like Google Adwords, Yahoo Search and MSN Ad Center, you can already have that built-in tracking with them because they have the data, although only basic tracking.

You can also make good use of Google Analytics if you have landing page for the product that you intend to build in for long term. Besides being free, you also get to enjoy all the add-on tools that the Analytics provide.

Lastly, there is an awesome service known as Tracking202. It’s amazingly free and it’s a very reliable service that can pretty much do advance tracking for your campaigns. You can either opt to use the free hosted version or the premium self-hosted version (needs a dedicated server). Unlike analytics, tracking202 is nearly real-time with its flawless tracking and I don’t know any other program that does tracking superbly combined with reliability and affordable cost than the 202 product. It’s also fully integrated with the major pay-per click networks so you’ll not have any issue with it.

Not tracking is a murderous crime in affiliate marketing. Do not think I am over-exaggerating things here. If you’re not tracking your campaigns yet then start doing so now, and you will be ahead of many other marketers. What say you?

So as you may probably see, affiliatehat.com is testing out different logos and trying to suit out what’s best for the blog. Obviously the former logo was not professionally suitable enough for it to mainly promote the brand and leave a lasting impression to the readers.

My preference with the logo design is a simple text-based logo with a hat icon in it. The color schemes, inclusion of a tagline and a professional font is what we are trying to discuss by now. If you happened to have any suggestions or critical insights and stufss, kindly fire them away!
